Trust us to diagnose risk factors and then recommend preventative measures to keep your investment protected. If it’s too late and there are visible signs of spalling, cracking or water damage, we’ll act fast to prevent further damage with quality remedial work.

What’s Concrete Cancer?

Concrete Spalls commonly known as Concrete Cancer, occurs when the reinforcing steel corrodes causing swelling or expansion of the steel which then “blows” or cracks the surrounding concrete leaving an unsightly disfiguring of the facade, requiring early attention to keep the spalling from spreading.

The most common causes of deterioration of concrete are generally the result of the following factors:

  • Air and water borne carbon dioxide and sulphide attack due to insufficient concrete cover or membrane protection at the time of construction of the building
  • Presence of Chlorides in the concrete
  • Early shrinkage cracking of the parent concrete due to fast track or poor construction techniques
